What Is Pichwai?

Pichwai is a traditional style of painting that originated in the Indian state of Rajasthan, particularly in the town of Nathdwara. It typically depicts scenes from Lord Krishna's life, particularly his childhood exploits, and is characterized by vibrant colors, intricate detailing, and a rich sense of symbolism.

Pichwai paintings, often created on cloth or paper, are used as decorative backdrops for Krishna idols in temples or as wall hangings during festivals and religious ceremonies.

Canvas & Weaves embraces the essence of pichwai artistry in its sustainable clothing by incorporating this traditional motif into its designs. We collaborate with skilled artisans to bring you clothing adorned with pichwai-inspired prints for kurtas, lehengas, and more. These prints not only pay homage to India's rich cultural heritage but also serve as a means of preserving and promoting traditional art forms.
