'The painter and the lion' is depicting an imaginary exchange between the present and the past. The red plastic stools often found in my paintings and a symbol of modern Singapore are placed in front of a painting of a lion statue, a mythological symbol. I don't see them as clashing but instead as part of the same conversation, part or the same composition balancing their bursts of color surrounded by plants.
